Bay Area, Oakland, and Santa Rosa — Radiesse®, Juvéderm™, and Restylane®/Perlane®

As our skin ages from the passage of time, sun damage, or smoking, it loses its resilience and becomes wrinkled. Facial fillers are a quick, easy, and relatively pain-free treatment that restores a youthful appearance to the face. These safe dermal fillers are injected into specific areas of the face or lips, to reduce the appearance of wrinkles, to restore lost volume, and to provide a more youthful facial appearance. Our dermatologists offer patients from Oakland, Santa Rosa, and throughout the Bay Area fillers such as Restylane®/Perlane®, Radiesse®, and Juvéderm™.

Restylane®/Perlane®

Restylane®/Perlane® is a novel dermal filler used to restore volume to the face and to correct moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, such as the nasolabial folds that run from the nose to the mouth. Restylane®/Perlane®, relatively new to the United States, has been used to treat more than 1.4 million patients in more than 70 countries, and has been used by dermatologists since 1996. Restylane®Perlane® is a clear gel made from hyaluronic acid, a fully biodegradable substance that exists naturally in the human body and has a low risk of allergic reaction. Perlane® has been used worldwide since 2000.

During a quick in-office procedure, Restylane®/Perlane® is injected into the skin wrinkles. To minimize discomfort, local anesthesia and ice packs are used. Ibuprofen or acetaminophen are suggested on the day of treatment to help minimize some expected mild swelling and tenderness.

An improvement in the appearance of wrinkles is almost immediate after treatment with Restylane®/Perlane®, and studies show that results can last for up to six months. Touch-up treatments can be repeated twice a year to sustain results. If you live in the Oakland or Santa Rosa area and are interested in Restylane/Perlane®, contact Dermatology Associates of the Bay Area to schedule a consultation.

Radiesse®

Another unique and effective dermal filler, Radiesse® is an excellent treatment for reducing the appearance of nasolabial folds, and wrinkles around the mouth and nose. What makes Radiesse® different compared to other fillers is that it is made from calcium-based microspheres that help rebuild the foundation of the skin by stimulating collagen synthesis.

Radiesse® is injected into the skin with a fine needle, and although there is typically little discomfort, a local anesthetic is used prior to treatment to ensure your comfort. Most patients are able to return to their normal routines soon after treatment. Results appear immediately, and typically last about 6 months to a year.

Radiesse® is safe and has gained FDA approval after years of independent research and clinical studies. Injection-related reactions, such as bruising or tenderness may occur, but typically resolve in 1-2 days. Contact Dermatology Associates of the Bay Area to learn more about Radiesse® and to schedule a consultation to find out if it is the right facial filler for you.

Juvéderm™

Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance in the skin that retains moisture to hydrate your skin and boost volume and density. Juvéderm™ is a hyaluronic-based injectable gel filler that smoothes and reduces the appearance of moderate to severe facial lines and folds. Similar to Restylane®/Perlane®, Juvéderm™ provides exceptional treatment of “smile lines,” or the nasolabial folds from the nose to the mouth

Juvéderm™ gel is produced through Hylacross™ technology, which creates a smooth gel with long-lasting results for a smooth and natural look and feel. The gel is available in three formulations to target specific types of wrinkles. Juvéderm™ creates a naturally smooth appearance for moderate wrinkles. The versatile Juvéderm™ Ultra adds volume and contours wrinkles and folds. The more robust Juvéderm™ Ultra Plus is best for deep wrinkles and folds.

During treatment, the gel is injected into the mid to deep layers of skin with a fine needle. A local anesthetic may be used to ensure your comfort. A dramatic improvement in the appearance of wrinkles occurs almost immediately after Juvéderm™ treatment; results can last for up to six months. Schedule a consultation at Dermatology Associates of the Bay Area to determine which Juvéderm™ formulation is right for you.

CosmoDerm® and CosmoPlast®

CosmoDerm® and CosmoPlast® facial fillers replenish the skin’s collagen to restore structure, and smooth facial lines and wrinkles. Unlike Zyderm® and Zyplast®, which are made from bovine collagen, CosmoDerm® and CosmoPlast® are made from human collagen, so there is less risk of an allergic reaction.

CosmoDerm® is best for fine lines, while CosmoPlast® is better for treating deep lines and for the lines around the lips. Both fillers are injected just below the skin's surface, and improvement of wrinkles is immediate. Both products are also formulated with an anesthetic to make treatment more comfortable. Results can last up to six months, but like other fillers available at our Bay Area practice, such as Radiesse® and Juvéderm™, periodic touch-up treatments will help sustain results.
